  The SID is the instance identifier for the database. The database does not have a SID. The rules are a database (the disk structure) may be pointed at by one or more instances (the memory structures inaddition to the disk). An instance may only look at one database.

If you have only one instance per database, you can name them the same and get the answer from the v_$database view.
