Hi Akrom,

I found a white paper on www.kirch.net/unix-nt that claims to be an objective comparison of the two. (I haven't had a chance to read it yet so I can't vouch for how biased or unbiased it is).

Based on reports from users who are using very large and/or very active databases I don't think that NT is quite ready for "prime time". Please note that some users with big databases, lots of users, and lots of transactions are quite pleased and report no reliability problems. IMHO the biggest problem is that so far -- no one has been able to identify the dos and don'ts that will allow the configuration of a high volume and reliable NT database configuration.

My own experience with NT hasn't been very good in terms of reliability, but (after the fact) I discovered that the installation I was working in at the time has a flaky network configuration and that many (perhaps even all) of my problems may have due to the network and not due to NT.

regards

Jerry
