I doubt that we'll ever find out but it would be interesting to know what made the difference and how you can get in touch with the people who made the decision.

a USENET group becomes important to a corporation only when the press starts to quote messages from it or describe tendencies.

the church of scientology is probably the only corporation that takes USENET seriously ;-)

anyhow, it will be interesting to see what sort of pricing Oracle will have on their Linux products. I for one hope that they won't make the prices as high as "traditional UNIX pricing", but rather something like Windows NT. if the price is high we'll probably only buy one license, but if it is reasonable chances are that we will buy several licenses.
