For high availability systems, I can't recommend using Windows NT. It is simply not stable enough for this use. Technological trends are pointing away from Windows, as the huge growth of other operating systems is showing. Cost of purchase is actually quite high on any bang/buck metric. Re: cost of ownership, I believe that it was Oracle Corporation that came up with a minimum of $100k per hour of unplanned network outage, which NT will guarantee.

You might also wish to consider scalability, which NT has promised for some time in the future, and which UNIX presently delivers.
