Thanks very much for all the replies. I found the reason why the LISTENER ADDRESS could not be found and an error message being appended to the file alert_SID.log every two minutes. Because listener.ora was in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin directory, it should be in /etc. Thanks again for all the people who gave me help and suggestions.
