You need three things. Oracle OCI libraries to build DBD::Oracle on your UNIX box, SQLnet (or some other middleware), and enough client licenses to keep you legal. You can get Oracle WG Server for a few platforms via the Try-n-Buy program http://www.oracle.com/products/trial/html/trial.html. Oracle WG server includes OCI/SQLnet.

Your Oracle sales rep might be able to provide you with client software for other unices, but I suspect that Oracle really sees Unix as a database server platform.
