Oracle v7.2.3: Heterogeneous Joins w/ dBase V files??..

Can anyone provide me an example of how to construct a SQL statement incorporating a heterogeneous join with a dBase V [or lower version] flat file on a hard disk for execution on an Oracle v.7.2.3 server? I had been previously instructed to use the 'CONNECT' SQL command but I could not get a successful execution. It may have been related to the Oracle OCA utility which I think I have but I'm not sure - how do I check? Any help you can provide would be very helpful. Thanks.
