SQLNet , ODBC, and PPP......yes or no?

Has anyone tried using Access with ODBC & Oracle SQLNet TCP/IP over PPP? When I try it I get a connect failure. Yet if I use normal 'Oracle' tools (SQLPlus and similar) over SQLNET TCP/IP with PPP w/out ODBC I can get across fine.

Access --> ODBC-->SQLNet TCP/IP--> PPP--> remote Oracle database (FAILS) Oracle tools-->SQLNet TCP/IP-->PPP-->remote Oracle database (SUCCESS)

Is there a time out parameter that can be set in the registry that has an affect, or does ODBC just not work over the PPP connection?
