Pro C versus ODBC API

I'm running Personal Oracle 7.2 on a PC with a Windows NT 4.0 operating system. We have been looking at reusing APIs written in C and embedded SQL, and precompiled in Pro C, for an Oracle database which resides on a SGI workstation (Unix). In the PC Windows world, almost all the technical guides for writing APIs or DLLs from Visual C++ or Visual Basic focus on the ODBC interface. What are there drawbacks with using Pro C to generate DLLs on a Windows NT platform versus ODBC?

Thanks!!
