Extremely compressed text databases

Algorithmic Research recently introduced a new data compression technology with the following characteristics:

• Extremely high compression factors.
• Fast random access (to individual pages/articles/records).
• Fast full text search (without decompression).
• Fast query search (without decompression).
• Low use of resources (runs even on low-end PDAs).
• Upward-compatible file format (strategy similar to Java).

In other words, text databases can be compressed without giving up transparent access, using only little CPU power and RAM.

For instance, the entire CIA World Factbook text database can be stored in just 400 KByte, supporting full text and query search!
