Copying a database to another NT server?

Does anyone know the best way to make a copy of a database running on an NT (intel) box. The situation is this:

NT machine a has a database built and running.
The database needs to be transferred to a portable PC for demos

I've had a go at installing ORACLE server for NT on the portable and then copying the whole NT directory tree from the main server (it contains the instance database files and was shutdown at the time). This didn't seem to work?

Any help would be appreciated
