We configured read committed on SQL Server whenever we had a concurrency issue and the application supported this isolation level.

We’ve never hit any issues related to row versioning. Like in Oracle, it works out of the box. You’d need to check the impact on the tempdb, as the versioned data are stored in-there.

I don’t think there’s a SQL interface for the access to the versioned data, such as “as of timestamp” in Oracle.

Oh this brings back memories of SQL Server's issues with the read/write blocking issues that SQL Server once had that I'd forgotten about.

I did a bunch of google searches on transaction consistency and wasn't turning up much. Looks like the key phrase is "row versioning"
