If the database started with 11.2.0.4, and this was unexpected, perhaps dba_registry should be queried.

Hi all,

Thanks for your feedbacks.

_at_Sayan, the database is 11.2.0.3 and was started with 11.2.0.4 binaries with compatible=11.2.0.4 in the init file;

_at_Jonathan & Oleksandr, when I tried to recreate controlfile using 11.2.0.3 binaries, I got the error: ORA-01130: version 11.2.0.4.0 of datafile incompatible with version 11.2.0.3.0 ORACLE ORA-01110: datafile 1 : '/data/oracle/../datafile/system.dbf'

Could starting the database in upgrade mode cause this issue?

Regards;

How did you find this out? Did you really mean "datafiles"? If the datafiles have been marked as 11.2.0.4 then it looks as if someone has already got at least partway through upgrading the database. It's possible that your only option is to make sure that you complete the upgrade. Make sure you take a backup of all the database files (including control files, redo logs, etc.) before you try anything else.

We inadvertently startup database bad compatible parameter. 11.2.0.4 instead of 11.2.0.3.

When trying to restart it using the good init file, we got this error.

ORA-00201: control file version 11.2.0.4.0 incompatible with ORACLE version 11.2.0.3.0
ORA-00202: control file: '../.../oracle/control/control01.ctl'

Is there a way to start the database without upgrading/downgrading procedure?

PS: the datafiles header contain already the new 11.2.0.4 compatible parameter.

Thanks in advance.
