Re: Upgrade Issue - ORA-00205: error in identifying control file

Hmmm, that doesn't seem likely. The database was upgraded, which means that the same instance was running from another ORACLE_HOME within the same Linux account. I cannot envision an upgrade scenario causing such effect.
