In all seriousness, this is the right answer. Read blogs, give yourself a challenge, solve it. There's so much material out there... Just learn what you need to begin, and then knock out one problem at a time till you get it. Google, stackoverflow, you've got a lot of resources to answer your questions as you go along.

I'd recommend starting with creating a script to monitor some choice Oracle metrics. It takes care of both things you want to learn. Then keep trying new things from there.
