At one of my previous jobs we rotated the logs, but never deleted them for few months, so i have seen old gzipped logs 18 months old. To me they never really served much purpose except when someone wanted timeline for a crash or similar.
So if you wish you could retain all old logs if it interests you. use something like logrotate to keep the size manageable else searching, opening them becomes a pain. Otherwise it depends on available storage and its usefulness.
