Hi Luis,

Thanks for sharing and the details. Now I have more reason to use Golden Gate. Although it needs license fee, it requires less maintenance would save our time. Time is money ^_^
Regards,
Lu

Subject: Re: Oracle Stream or Golden Gate?

Hi Lu,
I've been working with Oracle Streams (11.2.0.3) on a bi-directional environment with 2 or more databases. It takes a lot of effort to get it right, but as soon as you setup all the correct rules it works fine, performance is quite decent also in my env. Some things you need to know:

1) Sequences current value is not propagated to target database (it was a BIG issue for me).
2) Supplemental logging is mandatory. More attention is required for tables without PK/FK or UNIQUE INDEXES
3) Conflict handling is HARD!  Took me a lot of time to learn how they work and how to solve it when Oracle can't resolve conflicts
4) DML and DDL replication works as expected, but once you find a conflict you need to figure out how to create a conflict resolution rule or handle it manually everytime it happens..
5) Streams will not get more new features on 12c (or 11g). Oracle is advertising GG.
6) GG was not an option for me because of the price.

Luis Marques

The replica reporting db will be a RAC database and reside in the same cluster and same nodes as the prod database.
