Sizing ASM memory

Does anyone have any guidelines/docs on sizing memory for ASM instances? Note 437924.1 basically says "Use the default of 272mb and you will be fine in all circumstances, and if you aren't log an SR" Having just had a 11.2.0.2 instance crash taking out 6 db instances as a result of a 4031 I'm interested in any ways of estimating requirements. 272 plainly wasn't enough as even a restart didn't help, whereas upping the allocation to 500mb worked fine.
