I've probably got enough to get me going, I can get the nitty grittys through reading and trials and error :-).

Gleb Otochkin provided a really nice primer http://www.pythian.com/news/7959/oracle-goldengate-installation-part-1/. I'd suggest starting there, reading the latest docs for your version, and setting up a couple VMs to get some hands on. Golden Gate is pretty slick.
