This reminds me of an event back in College over a coding assignment (yes, it was COBOL). A classmate asked me for help with his code and showed me a particular part in his output (green bar) that he was struggling with. After looking for a bit I suddenly realized the code looked familiar. I then flipped back to the header and saw it was my output, a copy I had dumped in recycle a few hrs back. In short, he stole my code but still couldn't figure out the assignment so had me try to explain my code to him so he could submit it.

One "nefarious" use of a respectable person's resume is to erase the personal information & replace it with someone else's. I've seen mine used that way in the past. Person says he worked at the same company I was at for the same time period in the same position & I don't know them from Adam. Bad idea on the recruiters side as we have not used that recruiter since. But then they are busy and lots of people write very bad resume's, so why not capitalize on someone else's successful resume? I mean what's the chance that the person you got it from will be looking at the "borrowed" one.

Just remember Murphy's Law.

Exactly! Just don't provide personal information in your resume

That was sort of my point. I'm not sure how a resume could be used negatively.

I'd have to make sure there was no personal info (such as address, or phone) on it - which is different than if I sent it directly to a company or rep that I trusted.

And how your resume can be used? Just ask them for the job description and let us know why you think you shouldn't send the resume ))

I've been contacted by a recruiter via LinkedIn about an Oracle DBA position that is 60% travel, full benefits, and good pay. Says 'Assignments change every few months'. The company website for the recruiter is in the Midwest I believe. The recruiter uses a Yahoo account. The company website has 2 plain HTML pages.

He wants me to send my resume. The emails are written well, none of the usual earmarks of a scam that I might expect. He's provided his phone number as well.

I'm wary of sending my resume to someone who may not be on the 'up and up' as I'm not sure what nefarious purposes it might be used for. (If that makes sense). May be I am paranoid?

Thoughts?
