RMAN CATALOG

To me it seems like a good idea to create a catalog to use with RMAN. The databases where I will be running RMAN are on both AIX and Linux boxes. I'm thinking I should create a new database just for RMAN catalogs. Does anyone see a reason why I shouldn't create a separate database? And if I do create it, should I put in on the Linux box running Grid Control?
