Are you moving a prod instance? Im not sure if 11.1 is already strong enough to migrate prod enviroments, a common rule says to wait until the second release of a new version. Any advice?

I don't believe you will be able to use DBUA in this situation (I've not tried, so this is just a guess based on what I know). You will probably have to do a manual upgrade in this case. As already suggested, an expdp/impdp might be a good solution too.

I am getting ready to upgrade some small instances of 10.2.0.3.0 to 188.8.131.52.0 on a new server. My plan is to copy cold backups from the old server to the new one where I have already installed 11g. The instructions for using DBUA assume that you are upgrading an existing server where the Windows services for the instances already exist which will not be the case for the approach that I am taking. How do I get DBUA to recognize my copied databases?
