Was the Level 0 backup done with the plus archivelog option? If so then the level 0 backup should backup all archived redo logs required to restore the database to at least the point of the level 0 backup.

If you did not use the plus archivelog option and If there are no archived redo logs, then your backup is not adequate to do a restore of even the level 0 backup.

Subject: rman incomplete recovery

Hi All,
I would like to know if an incomplete recovery is possible in the following scenario:

control file back up from May 05, 2009.
Incremental level 0 backup taken on Jul 21, 2009 that completed 8 AM Is it possible to do an incomplete recovery till Jul 21, 2009 10 AM. There are no archivelogs between May 05, 2009 and Jul 21, 2009.

The back up is the only back up and there are no archivelogs. Thanks in advance. Would RMAN use this control file and apply the changes from backup. To my knowledge, RMAN would need archive logs to apply redo. Would appreciate if someone could reply at the earliest as I need to try it out right away.
