Sundar,

If you have archive logs from the time the incremental level 0 *started* until Jul 21, 2009 at 10:00am, then you should be able to do an incomplete recovery to Jul 21, 2009 10:00am. You *must* have archivelogs from the time the backup *started*, having archivelogs from the time the backup completed is NOT good enough.

Hope that helps,

-Mark

Subject: rman incomplete recovery

Hi All,
I would like to know if an incomplete recovery is possible in the following scenario:

control file back up from May 05, 2009.
Incremental level 0 backup taken on Jul 21, 2009 that completed 8 AM Is it possible to do an incomplete recovery till Jul 21, 2009 10 AM. There are no archivelogs between May 05, 2009 and Jul 21, 2009.

The back up is the only back up and there are no archivelogs. Thanks in advance. Would RMAN use this control file and apply the changes from backup. To my knowledge, RMAN would need archive logs to apply redo. Would appreciate if someone could reply at the earliest as I need to try it out right away.
