Yes, it looks for 3 things: (1) disable the failover package, (2) create a touch file and (3) execute the toolkit script to shut down. Then just the opposite to startup. When I only created the touch file and tried shutting down the database with my script, it actually dismounted the drives, and didn't failover because the touch file was there so we were without a db until the unix guy manually remounted the drives. Our unix guy is on vacation so I don't want to attempt anything at the moment but I think if I do 1 and 2 I may be able to run my script.

Brian

We ran into this once. The sysadmin set up something to check for the existence of a file, if it exists it did not fail over. THis was a few years ago, so things may have changed.

We had to shutdown the db and start it up in upgrade mode, and we most definitely did not want it to failover at that time.

I'm stumped. Why are you stopping your database?

Do you use rman with it? My problem stems from having to use the toolkit to start and stop the database to prevent it from failing over. In my rman script I stop the database and then start in mount mode. I won't be able to do that having to use toolkit.

We've got a ton of it, but not for RAC. Use it for hardware issue failover and load balancing. Very reliable.
