The reason it's still there, is that ruling out RULE may have some COST :)

On similar note (as issues seen in production), did anyone have any bad experiences to share when upgrading to 11g (say from 10.2.0.3)? What are the options to consider for upgrades when we talk about 10-15+TB size?

Thanks,
Deepak

we are running production databases 11.1.0.7 on AIX 5.3 and soon also on AIX 6.1. the production database was rebuilt from an 8.0.5 database

11g offers lots of easy handles for finding performance improvements but on the other hand my client also noticed that certain queries referencing views that had the RULE hint ran three times faster than without the RULE. stats were all up-to-date ansd not locked.

when can we RULE out the old optimizer?

I just wanted to check to see if anyone out there have implemented Oracle11g in production yet and what the feedback is. I did a search but couldn't find this information. We are running 3 11.1.0.7 databases in a production environment. No issues with any of them.
