Grant select on view returns 03113 error

Hi,  

Oracle 10.2
AIX 6   Really weird this one, googled and metalinked with no joy. Hope someone has seen this before.  

Got a couple of rather large complex views. When I try to recompile or grant select on them the following happens  

grant select on <view_name> to <user>

Error at line 1

ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

Script Terminated on line 5.

Any ideas
