According to me yes it will work as per the metalink note that i cited earlier.
Jared sometimes just copying over the datafile is faster then restoring from the backup.There are cases where we have one standby on a LAN and another over the WAN.
Copying the datafile over the LAN and then recovering it is faster then requesting the tape to be loaded and then restore from tape to disk etc..
