No, the 8i information hasn't all been removed. Do a search for "client server compatibility" or "client server interoperability" and I think you'll find what your're looking for. IIRC, the 10g client *was* certified with 8i, but there was a bug with trying to connect to 8.1.7.3 or earlier so if you're not on 8.1.7.4 you might have to install a patch to get the 10g clients to connect successfully.
