...Louis doesn't get a crash, he just posted that what he gets is a
cp(1) error:

cp: php_data01.dbf: A system call received a parameter that is not valid.

...forgot to say...and this happens because standard tools do not open
the file with the same mode (see

...the reason Louis does not get this cp(1) error when the filesystem is
mounted CIO is because that quality is essentially forced onto cp(1)...
