You can probably also find an incantation based on "backup backupset", whether you use the Flash Recovery Area or not.

If you are referring to 10g, you are probably looking for 'backup recovery area;'. With backup optimization enbabled, this command allows you to back up to tape or secondary disk anything in the flash recovery area that has not already been backed up. So what you are seeking is available if you use t flash recovery area as your disk backup destination.

Did I remember reading once that RMAN could do a backup to disk and then later carry that to tape?
