I agree, it is annoying and you'd think it would be at the top automatically, but you can go to the Advanced search as Andrew mentioned, or you can also just click the "Quick Find" drop down list and select "Document ID (Knowledge Base, Forum or Bug)" and that will work too - just a little faster than going to the Advanced page.
