As a contractor, I can swear that most employers who hired me, don't care about my certifications (7 and 10g). They rely more on the CV and experience, on the opinion of the internal 'specialist' derived from the questions during the interview. But with 10 years experience, you nearly always get the interview so I would rather think that certification is a real plus for starter and dubious advantage for those who have enough references.
Beside that, I see lot of people without certification and they are hired no problems.

Thanks Dennis
To get a position "exclusively" as a dba, I need a good certification. Because currently I'm more time developing than dbaing :)
