I would suggest:

  1. Don't guess, measure.
  2. Don't just measure what's easy to measure, measure what you need.
  3. When you're thinking about performance, what you need to measure is almost always response time.

Subject: OT - Advice for the Oracle Newbie

I am trying to put together a *Newbie DBA Handbook* to be used for new hires at my company and thought I would poll the list for topic suggestions.

So my question to you is, if you could give a new Oracle DBA one piece of advice, what would it be?

TIA, Patty
