if it is linked to the shutdown scripts in the machine then it will go down cleanly.

Why cant you log in via the oracle client enterprise manager and shut it down, you have a password file?

Anyway doesnt matter if it just gets killed, it will recover itself quite happily, the same as doing a shutdown abort which is safe
