Hi Chris and Jared

I have not tested any think, but a simple search on MetaLink gave this:

Note: 172179.1 - Which Oracle Client versions will connect to and work against which version of the Oracle Database?

It states:
In short, any version of SQL*Net's version 2 Client (2.3.x) and up to Net 9.0.x, will be able to connect to any version of Oracle Database version 7.3.x and up to 9.2.x, with certain compatibility issues that are explained below. Oracle client version 9.2.x is not certified and cannot connect to Oracle RDBMS version 7.3.x.

I have not tested this, and MetaLink is not always the truth, to whole truth and nothing but the truth, but this is more fact that something heard years ago.

Jared: I would definitely go for 9.2 (9.2.0.6) as this is a supported version, whereas Oracle 8i is desupported ages ago.

Jared,

You're the lucky one. I'm sure I remember an Oracle support statement at a User
Group meeting saying that V7 to 9i wasn't supported and in many cases didn't
work.

If this a production system I'd go with 8.1.7 just to be on the safe side.

Cheers,

Chris
