Sorry. I should have mentioned this is Solaris 64-bit.

The created database is too unstable to query v$ tables.

Mhmm... What says V$VERSION and DBA_REGISTRY?

The JServer isn't shared in any way. A database can only be installed with the JServer that comes with the release. On the other side the JRE installed to work with tools (dbca, netca, ...) can be shared between installations. But it has no influence on the version user for JServer.
