The market for people with Top Secret Clearances is 'insane'. There are job
fairs just for them. My company has signs up in our building practically
begging us to recruit them. A guy on my project was cleared by another part
of the company and recruited away from us. He says he basically has to work
out of cage. No internet. No phone. No calls from spouses. Nothing goes in
or out, but its ultimate job security.
Now Secret clearances don't seem to be too hot. You can get an 'interim' in 2 weeks and work on secret projects before having it completed. However, 80% of the DC Oracle market appears to be non-citizens and therefore inelligible for them. Seems like the Oracle market is far weaker than some other skills(accept for people with Datawarehouse experience). Java seems to be pretty strong and so does .Net. I think partially because you need so many of these guys on a project... We have like 60-70 Java people and 10 Oracle people. I have been told the straight C/C++ market is horrible.
Never seen it quite that bad though... I think its all those history and
economic lessons you give out that scares people away or stories about your
topless neighbors.
