BLOB resources

I am looking at a new application that will store millions of images, about 70-k each. My instinct is to store them in a blob datatype. I haven't worked with blobs before. Can anyone suggest resources for learning how to configure a scalable database to handle this? My guess is to create it with a 32-k block size. Obviously each row would take at least 3 blocks, and I would want to keep the blocks contiguous.

Also, some developers are lobbying for SQL Server. Could it handle this situation?
