Recently someone posted a question on what the Teradata database was like. I didn't feel the question was fully answered.
Here is a good article that discusses Teradata.

Customers say its data warehouse is peerless in its ability to process huge amounts of information -- well beyond the capabilities of systems from IBM or Oracle. A standard two-server data warehouse costs $486,000 While Teradata software can run on Windows platforms, most customers opt for the company's own Intel-based Unix servers."
