Given what you describe, RMAN should work fine. It dosen't seem like a best practice, why would you want to keep the name the same?

Has anybody tried using the same backup filename on RMAN? So if you use xxx.dmp on Monday,move this file to tape then reuse the same filename for the Tuesday dump. I think as long as the file is not on disk then RMAN accepts the filename. Does anyone know if there are complications when it comes to doing restores?
