Nope, in fact this is a good example of my failure to "read the whole question before replying". I thought Dave said no output was showing ... but he really said no errors were showing after the response that there were errors. My bad. I blame the fact it's Monday :-)

I think the other suggests on user_errors etc. are on the right track.
