why? on a purely intellectual curiosity level, why?
I'm not disagreeing with the practice, but if you are using a sequence
to generate the primary key, you are not using a natural key and the
value of the key SHOULD NOT MATTER. Whether it is in some vague
sequential order or whether there are major gaps. It doesn't matter.
If you need true sequential values, with no gaps, then you shouldn't be
using a sequence to generate them. You are now placing meaning on that
value.
