yes, it's in the DBA Handbook but.... I believe I did see a paper (with, I think, Cary's name on it. Sorry Cary!) way back when that discussed OFA and how to set up your disks and it said to put the indexes in a separate tablespace on a different disk

back before the days of wait event tuning that is
