That's what I thought, but then I checked the tech specs of most of the drives out there.

At Seagate for example the 15K.3
The 18 gig has 1 disc 2 heads
The 36 gig has 2 disc 4 heads
The 73 gig has 4 disc 8 heads

So does it matter how many drives you have? I guess more drives would decrease latency but would it really increase your throughput?

16 * 18GB 15K spins.

Generally, "More heads = more I/O performance"

We were looking into buying A new IO subsystem for a new server. So I was curios what everybody's thoughts were on what is faster 4 x 73gig or 8 * 36gig
