Ive seen Tom Kyte post on his site that he doesnt like hints. However, even in 9i there are times when I need to use hints to improve performance.

Hi,

Does Oracle have an official position on hints ?
Will they go away as the optimiser is becoming bettre or they are there to stay ?

TIA
