There are papers on the internet, I have two papers on my site (not done by me, so I can advertise). But one thing I should point out to you: the size of the database is not important for buying storage. It is the number of users and the number of I/O operations per second that the I/O subsystem can do. I said it before and will do again: don't buy storage but IO operations.
