I totally agree! The more development support required the more DBAs needed and you should always have a backup in case you hit lotto :-).

If you have that, in addition to production, in a 24x7 shop, then you need help

There "should" be at leat 2 DBAs -- what if you get sick or (as one of my bosses used to say) what if you get hit by a truck?
