Connor,

I tried DCD several times over the years. It worked sporadically at best and caused many other connection/remaining connected problems that OTS recommended we discontinue using it. Also in my experience it did nothing while a long running query was running, only worked if the client was in an idle state.

SQL Net has a dead connection detection (dcd) mechanism where it will poll the client occasionally to make sure they are still alive. If not, the session is killed.

In my experience though this has generally been the equivalent of a ping - so a user that bounces their pc or kills a task, but their pc remains accessible on the network does not qualify for the dcd.
