Yep,
That was my feeling when I first saw it too. I think that some of the assumptions are pretty naive. Most of the people who've replied to the article seem to say much the same thing.

A little knowledge ...

I have to strongly disagree with the 'bigger is better' methodology of this article!
For example, allowing 100% of the Linux buffer cache to be dirty, then only running a 5 second load pretty much guarantees that very little physical I/O was performed. The author is also misinformed about the workings of the log buffer, and the interaction of Oracle blocksize with the filesystem block size.
In some ways, though, I agree with the subtitle: Gladiator-like performance. In this case, the Gladiator runs faster than any man alive, until he reaches the wall of the amphitheater, where he has to stop and be eaten by the lion after all....
